Ginkgo Biloba Side Effects

From the Ginko Biloba Information Pages at

Ginkgo is one of the most popular herbal medications with more than 2 billion daily doses sold during the past 20 years. Side effects are rare and usually mild with the most important one being the risk of internal bleedings if used in conjunction with warfarin (Coumadin), aspirin or other blood thinning agents.

Other known side effects are nausea, vomiting, headaches, diarrhea, dizziness, palpitations, restlessness, weakness and skin rashes. These side effects are rare and if you get one it is usually mild.

Unprocessed ginkgo leaves should not be taken as they contain ginkgolic acids that are toxic.

There is no studies known to us about using Ginkgo extract during pregnancy and breastfeeding and thus we must recommend pregnant or lactating women not to take any Ginkgo supplements.

If you also take other medicines or other herbal supplements it is best to consult a physician with knowledge of herbal remedies before taking ginkgo.
